Question

Hi, I am a tech lead with 9 years of experience in .NET related projects. what is the general technical skills expectations from a company if i am applying for the position of Technical Project Manager ?

Hello Habib, Whatever I know I have listed here but I’m not a Technical Project Manager! Ability to manage the complete project technically. Technically identify the right people, right skills, technical guidance. More or less the same as the other Project Manager excluding People management like appraisals. Nowadays many techies doing Agile / DevOps Certifications to become Team or Tech Lead / Scrum Master / Technical or Non-Technical Manager so definitely it helps you. You should be 'Technically' strong because you know when subordinates ask anything related to technical / project you have to provide solutions. You should have good communication skills(you have to speak in English). You should be capable to build architecture for projects but you have to get it done by the team. You should know the Tools which usually managers use in the company. You should have skills such as Leadership Quality, Communication, Scheduling, Risk Management, Team Management, Cost Management, Negotiating, Critical Thinking, Task Management, Quality Management, A Sense of Humor, Have Patience, Tech Savvy, Mentoring, Time Management, etc. You should be capable to handle product owners because if something is not going to happen he will raise questions so you have to answer. You will be responsible for providing project planning and management for established initiatives within a company. They ensure that projects are completed to specification, within an established time frame and budget. You should be highly organized with a strong history in the tech lead developer for complex software development projects. You should have a strong sense of personal accountability regarding decision-making and supervising department teams. You should have experience working in a high-level collaborative environment and promoting a teamwork mentality.
