The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine

Question

Hi friends, Iam using MS Access 2003 as backend & VS 2005 as front end. Iam facing this problem. What may be reason? ... PLzzzzzz help me out.

Prabhu, OLEDB is not ODBC. ODBC is about 19 years old. OLEDB is newer than that. ODBC is used like an API (Microsoft calls it "a C programming-language interface") and OLEDB (also called OLE DB, OLE-DB and OLE/DB) is used using OLE. For anyone unfamiliar with "Object Linking and Embedding" (OLE) it is an early version of COM. Microsoft had stated that database software such as OLEDB and ODBC would not be available for 64-bit Windows but they seem to have givven in to pressure from it's customers. So 64-bit versions are supposedly available but as far as I know they must be installed separately. The document Data Access Technologies Road Map is interesting and useful.

Thanx all to ur reply. I have got the soln I have used command prompt where i have registerd fol.l dll: regsvr32 Msjetoledb40.dll regsvr32 Msjet40.dll Its working fine.

Hi Praveen, The Jet OLEDB Driver is ODBC Driver. So, You need not install Anything, it will come with Windows by default. I think the problem with your OS. You may be using Different Windows Version like 32 bit and 64 bit. Click the link , it may help you. Use these Lines if you want to know latest jet driver releases and download

Thankx for reply. iam running application on x86. I have also change it to x86 platform. But same error has been occuring. Any other soln

Are you running your application on x64 or x86 version of Windows? If your application is targetting 64bit version, currently there is no 64-bit version of Jet driver. So I would suggest changing the Platform Target build option for your application to target x86 rather than Any CPU. Or Microsoft has released a 64 bit compatible 2010 Office System Driver which can be used as replacement for the traditional Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 driver.
