Dear sir

i have a salary field in my emp table and i want to get last six months salary then update in six month salary in sql

need a sql query please

Try following, I have not tested it:
select sum(SM_TakeHome) [SalarySixMonths]
from Monthly_SalaryDetails
where SM_EMPID = 'GC1765'
  and datediff(mm, SM_PayingMonth, '20180106') < 7
In place of SM_PayingMonth, use the date column from your table.

actually query is

select sum(SM_TakeHome) from Monthly_SalaryDetails
where SM_EMPID='GC1765' and convert(char(6), SM_PayingMonth,112)=convert(char(6), '20180106',112)
its not retrive past 6 month data

I am almost certain you also have column for employee Id. Please give full details. Imagine this question is being asked to you. Please DO NOT make any assumptions about our imagination.

Also mention, if current month (the date on which you will be running query) should be part of last 6 months or not.

i have table salary master in that take home is one field

month        sal
------ -        -----
01-09-2017       1000
01-10-2017       1000
01-11-2017       1000
01-12-2017       1000
01-01-2018       1000
01-02-2018 1000

need to get sum(sal) for for every six months
