tree view

Hi list,
I am trying to create a treeview in which each node has a check box and in the front of each node I would like to draw a box (a rectangulare box) which lets me click on and change the colour property of things which are related to the node. I have managed to make the checkbox, and rectangulare in the front of node, but when I change the property of one of the rectangular, every property of other rectangular will change to the new change. Is there a way I can create individule boxes for each node, which can be separated from each other?
