Unable to insert multiple records

Hi All,

Unable to insert multiple records in SQL server 2005.

Command:

insert into emp (eno,ename,esex,eage,esal,dno) values (4,'Kat','M',40,40000,3),(5,'Mary','F',35,30000,5),(6,'Nancy','F',40,40000,6)

But, i am getting the below error message.

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1

Incorrect syntax near ','.

Pls help.

Bulk insert is the right approach for your requirement

Hi,
Try this query:
INSERT INTO EMP(eno,ename,esex,eage,esal,dno) VALUES (4,'Kat','M',40,40000,3)
INSERT INTO EMP(eno,ename,esex,eage,esal,dno) VALUES (5,'Mary','F',35,30000,5)
INSERT INTO EMP(eno,ename,esex,eage,esal,dno) VALUES (6,'Nancy','F',40,40000,6)

You can’t insert multiple rows by comma separation. You should use table for bulk insertion. We generally used bulk insertion whenever we need to insert multiple records from the table.

Try this.

insert into emp (eno,ename,esex,eage,esal,dno) values (4,'Kat','M',40,40000,3)
insert into emp (eno,ename,esex,eage,esal,dno) values (5,'Mary','F',35,30000,5)
insert into emp (eno,ename,esex,eage,esal,dno) values (6,'Nancy','F',40,40000,6)

I am afraid it might be issue with SQL Server 2005 version, which may not support this format. The format for 2005 is different as per https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3272487/sql-server-2005-insert-multiple-rows-with-single-query

Yes, the command is correct but , still i am getting the same error message.
