use of linq in asp.net projects?

hi everyone
i just wanted to know actually where linq is used in the projects . is it used only in 2-tier architectures or can we use it in 3-tier projects and n-tier projects ?
can anyone post me the examples of 3-tier and n-tier projects using linq...
