Very confuse about career progression

I am working in one of the leading IT industry since last 5-6 years. I worked as business analyst for 5 years and now moved to application support - SQL. I am good at programming and since its a long time i have not practiced any of the programming languages, i am bit confuse now that should i brush up my existing knowledge or should i learn new technologies. I know C, CPP, Core Java, C sharp, SQL. Please advice...

Hi Raviraj,

As I have suggested .NET is right path, I would recommend to stay focused on it. I don't think build tools like Jenkins etc. will add value, rather I suggest become aware of CI (continuous Integration) fundamentals as it' more important than practicing a specific tool, unless you have a tool in place to practice the those fundamentals as well. BTW, many CI related aspects are taken care by DevOps people.

I was business analyst but now i moved to app support. I want to switch the company and looking to groom up with the good technologies since i didn't find much growth as business analyst.

To find good growth, i am just looking forward to grasp knowledge on some best technologies which will keep me fighting in the industry for the longer time.

So, after some research i found i should go with brush up on .Net and learn below new technologies as well:
Javascript Framework like AngularJS, NodeJS or Knock Out.
Web API
Design Patterns
WCF
Build and Deployment tools like Jenkins

Please correct me if i am on wrong direction and advice if you feel something needs to be added here...

Hi Raviraj,

If you are a Business Analyst then programming skills are not required; but having programming knowledge; like you do, can come handy at times; especially when talking to developers.

I am not sure what your future career plan is; but to answer your question; if you already know C# then brush up that only. No need to look at C, PHP, Java etc. But keep SQL knowledge up-to-date.

.NET has evolved a lot especially in last 5 years; so learning will be fun for you; keep in simple, take small steps and don't try to learn all at once. But stay focused and determined and you will get it. Also, don't think to get into a project thing right-away; rather practice small Proof -of-concept (POC) type of application and then you can move to next level from there onward.
