The payment gateway services are the only way to purchase something through mobile applications. In fact, it's a mediator between the transaction a customer wants to perform and the payment processor. Why there is a need for any sort of mediators? You cannot direct process credit cards. Visa, Mastercard or other credit card companies do not entertain small companies or individuals. They allow big players to process credit cards and these big players usually pass work to payment gateways (smaller players).
A payment gateway is the company that takes credit card information from you and processes it and sends money back to your bank account. A Payment gateway charges a fee for this processing.
