What is REST API and where can I learn about it?

I am looking for jobs/internships and most of them have the requirement of REST API. I have also heard this thing associated with Retrofit. Should I learn Retrofit or something else?

REST stands for Representational State Transfer. It is an architecture that defines a set of rules for creating web services. RESt creates an object of data requested by the client and sends the value of the object in the response to the user.

It is an architectural style that defines a set of rules in order to create Web Services. In a client-server communication, REST suggests to create an object of the data requested by the client and send the values of the object in response to the user.

creating http services are called as rest API , code written in Java can not be used in .Net application directly , but rest services written in any language can be consumed by any client whether it is a javascript , a java application , a .net desktop app, web app or any IOTs.
