What is stable version of .NET

Hi,

Is .NET 4.0 stable version for WinForms and WPF development?

Actually we have some .NET WinForm applications working under .NET 2.0 with SQL Server 2008 database on XYZ machine. We want to upgrade 1 vb6 application to .NET. Probably we will use the .NET 3.5 OR 4.0 version and application will be developed using WinForms/WPF.

So if we install .NET 3.5/4.0 on this XYZ machine then will it cause any problem to our SQL 2008 database, .NET 2.0 and applications running under .NET 2.0 ?

Please let me know if any one has idea about this OR want to alert me.
