Hi Ashok, Stored procedure is set of sql statements, you can use this statements again and again. A stored procedure is nothing more than prepared SQL code that you save so you can reuse the code over and over again. So if you think about a query that you write over and over again, instead of having to write that query each time you would save it as a stored procedure and then just call the stored procedure to execute the SQL code that you saved as part of the stored procedure. A stored procedure is a precompiled set of one or more SQL statements that is stored on Sql Server. Benifit of Stored Procedures is that they are executed on the server side and perform a set of actions, before returning the results to the client side. This allows a set of actions to be executed with minimum time and also reduce the network traffic. Hence stored procedure improve performance to execute sql statements. Advantages of using stored procedures are:- They are easier to maintain and troubleshoot as they are modular. - Stored procedures enable better tuning for performance. - Using stored procedures is much easier from a GUI end than building/using complex queries. - They can be part of a separate layer which allows separating the concerns. Hence Database layer can be handled by separate developers proficient in database queries. - Help in reducing network usage. - Provides more scalability to an application. - Reusable and hence reduce code. A stored procedure is a group of sql statement.It is used to reuseability.It is reduce network traffic and also reduce bandwidth.It has two types. 1.system defined procedures.(It is already defined in sql sever) 2.user define stored procedures. (It is simply written by user)
