Vss is Visual source safe. it is used to share our code to other as well as used to maintain history of changes.

Suppose you have team of 8 members then VSS is the centeral from whch all the members can acecess that source code..
Unautorized user can not be perform any changes into your source code..if it is under VSS because at that time files are read only
