thanks for u r reply but my excel contains 50000 rows so when i cast using this Cast the returned value to a varchar cast (fff as varchar(99)) fff On the ADO side, convert it back drow.fff = Convert.ToDouble(drdr.GetString(ncolFFF)); it is more slower
