white/crashed forms

hey, while in a download loop of a big webpage (using either WebClient or System.Net.Sockets.Socket) if the form is minimized/lost focus (ie clicked another window)/another window (like an AIM IM window) is put over it the whole form will go white until the download is complete ( or in the case of aim windows above it just the bit the aim was covering will go white). is there a way to stop this? in VB wouldnt u use DoEvents or somthing, what do u do in C#? thx for ure time.
