Would Mahatma Gandhi have made a good software engineer?

I do not consider Bill Gates to be a software engineer. Microsoft is very marketing-oriented; like most other big businesses they intentionally confuse people with terminology. A software engineer would have understood the value of good documentation, and Windows was not documented very well when it was young. For Bill Gates, his priorities was success in business. His motivation for technical success was the result of a need to succeed competitively. If Bill Gates was more interested in technical success, he would have continued Microsoft's partnership with IBM.

Are you sure Mahatma Gandhi would compare himself to Bill Gates? Maybe Steve Jobs. Of course, as I said, I don't know much about Mahatma Gandhi so if I misunderstand then I apologize.

He would sit on fast against company/boss pressuring employees unnecessarily infront of company

I would say surely he would have been a good software programmer.

• Gandhi took his time to grow and develop his techniques to ensure that his actions made an impact.
• He was brutally honest and truthful and this helped him throughout his life

If you see the above qualities of Mahatma, surely it would match to a good software engineer.

I must admit that I do not know much about Mahatma Gandhi. So please excuse my ignorance.

Would Mahatma Gandhi enjoy programming? Is there any evidence that he was detailed and technical? I think any smart person can be a good programmer if they want to but he chose to be political and social but not technical and therefore he would have not been a good programmer. Or you could say that if there was any reason he had to be a programmer then he would have been very successful.

 He wolud be still fixing the bugs for Independence software.

I doubt it.

His background was in law which is not a profession which nowadays is strongly correlated with software engineering.

Also he was resolutely non-violent. Typically, software engineers need a way of venting their frustrations such as throwing their mice at the screen when their programs don't work!

If he had have been a software engineer then, as a sandal-wearing ascetic, I think he would have been happiest in the Linux community :)
