Comment formatting would be appreciated

Coments were formatted in the past. Then comments got a lot of spam (that's what they say) and the only way they know to prevent spam is to prevent links in comments. The only way to prevent links is to not allow formatting. So if someone has a way to hve formatting without spam then that is what we need. It is easy to say that we need formatting but it is not easy to say how to prevent spam.
