Data lineage is the process of tracing data as it moves through an organization’s systems from its original source, through various transformations, and finally to the reports, dashboards, and analytics that business intelligence tools deliver. Instead of just showing what the data looks like at the end, data lineage highlights the entire journey the data takes. This includes where it came from, how it was processed, which systems touched it, and where it ultimately ended up.
