what is the difference between a dataset and a datatable. which one should be used and when?

Hello Friend,
Data Set is Collection of Data Tables and Data Relations.
when we require more than one table we use Data Set other than we use table to store information.
Data Table is also Collection of Data Columns and Data Rows.

dataset is the set of datatables i.e. Data set can store many tables but a data table can have one table only.
