Description
At Amazon Logistics, the intersection of customer addresses, geospatial information, and road networks is pivotal to our Delivery Planning systems. The Geospatial Science team is at the forefront of addressing challenges in Address Normalization, Geocode learning, Travel time estimations, Maps conflation, and attributes learning. As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will lead a team focused on addressing complex problems related to normalization and geocode learning, contributing significantly to route planning and enhancing the overall delivery experience for both transporters and end customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of experienced scientists in building and deploying ML models to solve intricate business problems.
- Define the team's charter and propose impactful solutions aligned with organizational priorities and production constraints.
- Provide ML thought leadership to technical and business leaders, contributing strategically to business, product, and technical challenges.
- Contribute to the scientific community through participation in science reviews and publishing in internal or external ML conferences.
Key Challenges and Projects
Address Hierarchy Organization
- Organize addresses hierarchically, handling noisy, inconsistent, localized, and multi-lingual inputs at a large scale.
- Implement technologies such as entity matching, multi-modal learning, named entity recognition, and large-scale predictive modeling.
Geospatial and Logistics Knowledge Graphs
- Build foundational models and knowledge graphs for geospatial and logistics applications.
- Power downstream applications like learning delivery locations, anomaly detection, and attribute propagation.
- Utilize technologies such as Large Language Models and Graph Nets.
Scalable Solutions for Maintenance and Expansion
- Develop generic and scalable solutions to reduce maintenance costs and facilitate faster expansion to multiple geographies.
- Implement technologies like zero-shot generalization, semi or weak-supervised learning, and large-scale information retrieval.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience building machine learning models for business applications.
- PhD or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, and Python.
- Expertise in neural deep learning methods and machine learning.
- Experience in building speech recognition, machine translation, and natural language processing systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy, etc.
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
- Expertise in generative deep learning models applicable to the creation of synthetic humans (e.g., CNNs, GANs, VAEs, and NF).
