Job Description

As a SQL Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of SQL databases. You will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of our database systems. This position demands a high level of expertise in database management, including recovery planning, monitoring, and optimization. You will also be involved in the development of database policies and procedures to ensure the consistency and reliability of our data.

Key Responsibilities

Database Product Installation

  • Install and configure SQL database products and related software.
  • Ensure all installations comply with company standards and requirements.

Database Product Maintenance

  • Perform regular maintenance tasks to ensure the databases are running efficiently.
  • Apply patches and upgrades as necessary.

Database Recovery Planning

  • Develop and maintain database recovery plans.
  • Ensure backup and recovery processes are tested and reliable.

Database Monitoring

  • Monitor database performance and health using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Implement proactive measures to ensure optimal performance.

Database Reorganizations (Reorgs) 

  • Perform database reorgs to maintain data integrity and performance.

Database Connectivity

  • Manage and troubleshoot database connectivity issues.
  • Ensure secure and reliable connections to the database.

Physical Database Support

  •  Provide physical support for database environments, including storage management and hardware resource optimization.

Database Tuning and Stress Testing

  • Perform database tuning to enhance performance.
  • Conduct stress testing to ensure database stability under heavy loads.

Production Maintenance Window Coordination

  • Coordinate and execute maintenance activities during scheduled windows.
  • Minimize downtime and disruption to production systems.

Change Request Execution and Preparation

  • Prepare and execute database change requests.
  • Ensure changes are documented and comply with change management processes.

Database Refresh

  • Perform database refreshes to keep non-production environments in sync with production.

Performance Tuning

  • Conduct comprehensive performance tuning at the application and database levels.

Application-level Database Performance Tuning

  • Collaborate with application developers to optimize database performance.

Database Security Enhancement Management

  • Implement and manage database security measures.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and standards.

DBA Procedure Documents

  • Create and maintain DBA procedure documentation.
  • Ensure procedures are up-to-date and accessible.

User Access

  • Manage user access to the database, ensuring appropriate permissions and security.

Corporate Database Standard Implementations

  • Implement corporate database standards across all environments.

Operational Support Process

  • Develop and maintain operational support processes for database management.

Database Hertz Data Definitions

  • Define and manage Hertz-specific data definitions.

Database Parameters

  • Configure and manage database parameters to ensure optimal performance and stability.

Locking Conflicts, Latch Contention, Rollback Requirements

  • Manage and resolve locking conflicts, latch contention, and rollback requirements.

Hertz Database Responsibilities

  • Ensure all Hertz database responsibilities are fulfilled in accordance with company policies.

Incident, Change Request, Problem Ticket Management, RCA

  • Manage incidents, change requests, and problem tickets.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for database-related issues.

All Other Nonstop Database Administration Activities

  • Perform any additional database administration activities as required.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a SQL Database Administrator or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL database management, maintenance, and optimization.
  • Experience with database recovery planning and execution.
  • Strong understanding of database security practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, managing multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
