AMD and OpenAI Announce Partnership for Massive GPU Deployment
OpenAI-AMD

October 6, 2025 — AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) and OpenAI today announced a major multi-year strategic partnership to power OpenAI’s next-generation artificial intelligence infrastructure with AMD Instinct GPUs. The agreement covers up to 6 gigawatts of GPU capacity across multiple product generations, beginning with an initial 1 gigawatt deployment of AMD Instinct™ MI450 Series GPUs in the second half of 2026.

Under the partnership, AMD will serve as a core compute partner for OpenAI, providing large-scale deployments of its Instinct GPU technology and collaborating closely on hardware and software optimization. The agreement builds on the companies’ existing collaboration that began with the AMD Instinct MI300X and MI350X series.

To further align strategic interests, AMD has issued OpenAI a warrant for up to 160 million shares of AMD common stock. These shares will vest as OpenAI achieves specific deployment and performance milestones tied to the scale of GPU usage, as well as AMD’s share price targets.

“We are thrilled to partner with OpenAI to deliver AI compute at massive scale,” said Dr. Lisa Su, chair and CEO of AMD. “This partnership brings the best of AMD and OpenAI together to create a true win-win, enabling the world’s most ambitious AI buildout and advancing the entire AI ecosystem.”

“This partnership is a major step in building the compute capacity needed to realize AI’s full potential,” said Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI. “AMD’s leadership in high-performance chips will enable us to accelerate progress and bring the benefits of advanced AI to everyone faster.”

“Building the future of AI requires deep collaboration across every layer of the stack,” added Greg Brockman, co-founder and President of OpenAI. “Working alongside AMD will allow us to scale to deliver AI tools that benefit people everywhere.”

AMD CFO Jean Hu noted that the agreement is expected to generate tens of billions of dollars in revenue for AMD over the coming years while being “highly accretive to AMD’s non-GAAP earnings-per-share.”

The partnership represents one of the largest GPU infrastructure deals to date and highlights the growing demand for high-performance computing to support large-scale AI development and deployment. Together, AMD and OpenAI aim to build the infrastructure required to meet the world’s accelerating AI needs.
