Anthropic has introduced Claude Tag, a new enterprise-focused AI feature that embeds Claude directly into Slack as a persistent team member. Instead of acting like a traditional chatbot that responds only to individual prompts, Claude Tag functions more like a shared AI coworker that teams can collaborate with in real time.  

The core idea is simple: once Claude Tag is added to selected Slack channels, team members can summon it using @Claude to answer questions, summarize discussions, break down tasks, or assist with ongoing projects. Unlike previous Slack integrations, Claude Tag maintains shared context and memory, meaning it remembers relevant channel conversations and can continue work across sessions.  

According to Anthropic, admins can control exactly what Claude can access, including:

• Specific Slack channels

• Internal documentation

• Connected tools and APIs

• Company datasets

• Code repositories

This allows Claude Tag to operate with deeper organizational context while preserving enterprise governance and security controls.  

One of the biggest shifts is that Claude Tag is designed for asynchronous work. Teams can delegate multi-step tasks to Claude and return later for results. Anthropic says Claude can plan work, track context, monitor updates, and proactively surface important information without needing constant prompts. This moves AI collaboration beyond simple Q&A into ongoing workflow participation.  

Example enterprise use cases include:

• Summarizing long Slack threads

• Tracking product discussions

• Monitoring incidents and alerts

• Research and knowledge retrieval

• Assisting engineering teams with code context

• Coordinating project updates

For engineering teams, this could be particularly valuable because Claude can connect with codebases and technical documentation, giving developers a shared AI assistant that understands both conversations and source code context. 🚀

The launch reflects a broader trend in enterprise AI: the rise of agentic workplace assistants. Rather than isolated chat interfaces, AI systems are increasingly becoming embedded inside the tools employees already use daily—Slack, email, IDEs, docs, and workflow software.

Anthropic is positioning Claude Tag as part of this future, where AI agents act less like assistants waiting for commands and more like active collaborators participating in team workflows. The company has been aggressively expanding its enterprise offerings with products like Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Code, and now Claude Tag.  

Currently, Claude Tag is available in research preview for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers on Slack, with broader platform support expected in the future.
