Apple has announced a new set of AI frameworks, APIs, and developer tools designed to help developers build intelligent applications across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. The announcement was made at WWDC 2026 as part of Apple’s expanding Apple Intelligence ecosystem.

One of the biggest additions is the Foundation Models Framework, which gives developers direct access to Apple’s on-device foundation models. This allows apps to integrate generative AI capabilities while maintaining Apple’s privacy-first approach. Developers can use these models for text generation, summarization, content understanding, and intelligent app experiences without relying entirely on cloud services.

Apple also introduced enhancements across its development stack, including:

  • Foundation Models Framework

  • Expanded Apple Intelligence APIs

  • Improved App Intents integration

  • New Xcode AI-powered development tools

  • Enhanced Swift and SwiftUI capabilities

  • Deeper Siri AI integration for third-party apps

According to Apple, developers can now expose app actions and content directly to Siri AI through App Intents, enabling users to interact with apps using natural language. This allows Siri AI to discover and execute app functionality more intelligently across the system.

Apple emphasized that many AI features can run locally on-device, leveraging Apple Silicon and Apple Intelligence models for privacy, performance, and reduced latency. The company says developers can build AI-powered experiences without requiring extensive machine learning expertise.

The announcement reflects Apple’s broader strategy of embedding AI deeply into its developer ecosystem while maintaining a strong focus on privacy and on-device intelligence. With Siri AI, Foundation Models, and new developer APIs, Apple is giving developers more tools to build the next generation of intelligent applications.
