October 15, 2025 — Cupertino, California — Apple today introduced the next-generation iPad Pro powered by the M5 chip, delivering a substantial boost in AI and graphics performance, faster storage and memory, and a host of software features in iPadOS 26 aimed at creative professionals, developers and power users. Available in 11-inch and 13-inch models and offered in Space Black and Silver, the new iPad Pro is available to pre-order now and arrives in stores beginning Wednesday, October 22.

Powered by the next generation of Apple silicon, the new iPad Pro delivers our most advanced and versatile iPad experience yet,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “iPad Pro with M5 unlocks endless possibilities for creativity and productivity — with a huge leap in AI performance and a big boost in graphics, superfast wireless connectivity, and game-changing iPadOS 26 features.”

M5: “The Next Big Leap in AI for iPad”

Apple’s M5 brings a new architecture designed specifically for on-device AI. Key silicon highlights include:

  • A 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, and a 16-core Neural Engine — delivering up to 3.5Ă— AI performance compared to M4 and up to 5.6Ă— vs. M1.

  • A 10-core CPU (4 performance + 6 efficiency cores) with Apple’s “world’s fastest CPU core” for single-thread responsiveness and improved multithreaded throughput.

  • Over 150 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth and significantly faster SSD I/O for shorter load times and quicker local model loading.

For developers and AI practitioners, the M5 makes local inference, image diffusion, video masking, and LLM tasks far more practical on a portable device — accelerating workflows in apps like Draw Things, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro for iPad, and other model-driven tools.

Real-World Gains: Graphics, Video and Productivity

Apple published significant workload improvements that underline the platform’s viability for creators and devs:

  • Up to 6.7Ă— faster 3D rendering (Octane X) vs. M1, and up to 1.5Ă— vs. M4.

  • Up to 6Ă— faster video transcode in Final Cut Pro for iPad vs. M1.

  • Up to 4Ă— faster AI image generation in Draw Things vs. M1.

  • Up to 3.7Ă— faster AI video upscaling in DaVinci Resolve vs. M1.

These gains translate into faster prototyping, quicker model iteration, and more capable on-device content creation without mandatory cloud round trips.

iPadOS 26 and Apple Intelligence

iPadOS 26 ships with a new windowing system, Liquid Glass design elements, an enhanced Files app, a Preview app with PDF editing, and expanded background tasks and audio control for pro workflows. Crucially for developers, Apple Intelligence and the Foundations Models framework are exposed via system APIs, enabling apps to integrate generative and assistive features with privacy-first, on-device execution.

Notable iPadOS 26 features:

  • New multiwindow and menu bar UX for desktop-style app control.

  • Files app improvements and folder customisation; default app setting per file type.

  • Preview app with Apple Pencil markup and AutoFill.

  • Shortcuts with deeper intelligent actions and Live Translation integrated across Messages, FaceTime and Phone (in supported languages).

Connectivity & External Display Enhancements

Apple brings advanced connectivity to iPad Pro:

  • C1X modem on cellular models for up to 50% faster cellular throughput and improved efficiency.

  • N1 wireless chip enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread for higher throughput and more reliable local networking.

  • External displays supported at up to 120 Hz with Adaptive Sync, making iPad Pro suitable for low-latency external workflows like live video editing and gaming.

Design, Battery, and Accessories

The 11-inch (5.3 mm) and 13-inch (5.1 mm) iPad Pro models retain an ultra-portable profile, and the Ultra Retina XDR display adopts tandem OLED technology for exceptional brightness and contrast. Apple offers a nano-texture glass option for professional colour work. Accessories include Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil (USB-C), and the new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro (11- and 13-inch versions).

Sustainability & Lifecycle

Aligned with Apple 2030 goals, the new iPad Pro uses 30% recycled content by weight, including recycled aluminium, rare earth elements and cobalt. Packaging is 100% fiber-based, and Apple reports manufacturing using renewable electricity across parts of the supply chain.
