Coinbase has announced the open-sourcing of its Coinbase Design System (CDS), marking a major step forward in empowering developers and designers across the world. The move aims to provide builders with production-ready, accessible, and fully customizable tools for crafting high-quality digital experiences — the same ones that power Coinbase’s products.

The Coinbase Design System, available now at github.com/coinbase/cds, has evolved from the foundation of Coinbase’s mobile app into a comprehensive framework supporting its entire ecosystem of retail, business, and institutional products.

What Is the Coinbase Design System?

CDS is a robust, open source collection of more than 100 components built for production-grade applications. These include:

• Core UI elements such as buttons, icons, typography, and layout tools

• Advanced components for data visualization, navigation, and feedback

• Accessibility-focused design with built-in support for screen readers, keyboard navigation, and optimal color contrast

CDS offers the same components we use to build our own products,” said Dom Flask, from Coinbase’s Engineering team. “By making it open source, we’re giving developers everywhere access to a proven, flexible system for building world-class applications.”
