ElevenLabs has introduced Agent Workflows, a new visual editor for designing complex conversation flows within its AI agents platform. The feature gives developers and businesses greater control over how AI agents handle multi-step interactions, route tasks, and apply security and business policies.
Smarter structure for AI agents
With Agent Workflows, teams no longer need to manage all logic within a single large prompt. Instead, they can map decision points, define hand-offs between Subagents, and create clear routes for when an issue should escalate to a human operator.
This makes each interaction explicit, auditable, and testable, enabling teams to design safer and more predictable AI-driven processes.
Scoped Subagents and controlled access
Each Subagent within a workflow has its own system prompt, tools, and scoped knowledge base. Developers can decide:
Which Subagent handles a given task
What data or systems it can access
When to escalate to another Subagent or a human
This structure not only improves response quality but also helps maintain security and compliance by limiting access to sensitive systems.
Built-in security and policy enforcement
Agent Workflows integrate seamlessly with internal business systems, allowing teams to embed validation rules, approval steps, and escalation paths directly into conversation flows. This ensures that AI-driven interactions follow the same policies and security standards that human teams use today.
Optimize for performance and cost
The platform allows teams to choose the best AI model for each task — for example, using lightweight models for routing and classification, and more powerful ones for complex reasoning.
By scoping prompts and data per Subagent, organizations can reduce latency, control costs, and increase accuracy.
Building structured, scalable AI systems
ElevenLabs says Agent Workflows are designed to help teams build secure, structured, and scalable conversational agents, giving full visibility into how tasks are routed and resolved.
Developers can start using Agent Workflows today through the ElevenLabs Agents platform.
