LAS VEGAS — January 5, 2026 — Google today unveiled new Gemini-powered capabilities for Google TV, previewing how artificial intelligence will make televisions more intuitive, creative, and easier to control. The announcement was made during CES 2026, as Google highlighted expanded ways users can interact with their TVs across more brands and surfaces, including projectors.

The new features are built on Gemini 1, bringing richer discovery, smarter personalization, and hands-free control directly to the living room.

“We’re making TV more helpful by turning it into an active assistant for learning, creativity, and everyday viewing,” said Shalini Govil-Pai, Vice President of Google TV.

A More Visual Way to Explore Content

Google TV will introduce a visually rich discovery framework that adapts Gemini’s responses to user queries. When viewers search for topics, results can include images, videos, and real-time sports updates. For more complex subjects, a new “Deep dives” feature provides narrated, interactive overviews designed to be easy for the whole family to understand.

Photos, Reimagined on the Big Screen

Gemini integration also extends to personal media. Users will be able to search their Google Photos libraries using natural language to find specific people or moments. New creative tools such as Photos Remix allow artistic styles to be applied instantly, while immersive, cinematic slideshows transform personal memories into large-screen experiences.

With creative models like Nano Banana and Veo, users can reimagine personal photos or generate original media directly on their TV.

Natural Language TV Controls

Google is also simplifying TV setup and tuning. Instead of navigating through complex menus, viewers can use natural language commands such as “the screen is too dim” or “the dialogue is lost” to instantly adjust picture and sound settings without interrupting what they’re watching.

Availability

The new Gemini for Google TV features will roll out first on select devices from TCL, with broader availability across other Google TV devices planned in the coming months.

The announcement reinforces Google’s broader CES 2026 theme of using AI to make everyday technology more accessible, personal, and seamlessly integrated into daily life.
