Google has announced that speech translation is now rolling out to the Google Meet apps on Android and iOS. Following its successful launch on the web, this feature allows meeting participants to have their audio translated into other languages in near-real-time, significantly reducing language barriers for global teams.
Key Features and Capabilities
Bidirectional Support: The feature currently supports translation between English and five other languages: Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Italian.
Seamless Communication: Mobile users can now participate in multilingual meetings with translations appearing directly on their device screens, enabling more natural conversation flow.
Meeting Room Integration: While users in conference rooms can hear translations, the system does not yet translate their own speech if they are using shared room hardware.
One Pair at a Time: meetings are currently limited to one active language pair (e.g., English <-> German) at any given time.
Availability and Rollout
Rollout Schedule: The feature began a gradual rollout for Rapid Release domains on April 8, 2026. Scheduled Release domains will follow starting April 23, 2026.
Eligible Editions: Speech translation is available to:
Business: Standard and Plus
Enterprise: Standard and Plus
Education: AI Ultra Access and Google AI Pro for Education
Consumer: Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers
Admin Control: The feature is ON by default but can be managed at the Organizational Unit (OU) level via the Admin console.
