Google just launched something exciting: Search Live, a new voice-powered experience in the Google app (for both Android and iOS). It’s now available in the U.S. for users who’ve joined the AI Mode experiment in Labs.

Talk, Ask, Follow Up – Hands-Free!

With Search Live, you can now have a natural, back-and-forth voice conversation with Google Search. Perfect for when your hands are busy — like packing for a trip or cooking. Just tap the new “Live” icon in the Google app and start talking.

Example

• Ask: “What are some tips for preventing a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?”
• Get an AI-generated voice response.
• Follow up: “What if it still wrinkles?”
• And boom — Search keeps the conversation going!

Plus, you’ll see useful web links right on your screen so you can explore deeper.

Keep Talking, Even While Multitasking

The best part? Search Live keeps working in the background, even if you switch to another app. Want to switch from voice to text? Tap “transcript” and continue typing. Missed something? No problem — your AI Mode history lets you pick up right where you left off.

Built on Google’s Best Tech

Behind the scenes, this new feature uses a custom version of Google’s Gemini model, enhanced with advanced voice capabilities. It’s powered by the same high-quality systems that make Google Search so reliable.

Google also uses a “query fan-out” technique, meaning it shows you a wider variety of helpful content from across the web, not just one quick answer.

Soon, Search Live will get even smarter. Google is planning to add camera input, so you can literally show Search what you’re seeing — in real-time.
