OpenAI is accelerating its next phase of growth by bringing in seasoned technology executive Vijaye Raji as Chief Technology Officer of its Applications division. Raji, who previously founded Statsig and held senior roles at Meta, will report to Fidji Simo, CEO of OpenAI Applications, and lead product engineering for ChatGPT, Codex, and future consumer-facing tools.

This move comes as OpenAI continues scaling its flagship products to hundreds of millions of users worldwide, with a strong emphasis on speed, safety, and reliability.

Vijaye Raji: From Meta and Statsig to OpenAI

Raji brings over a decade of experience building engineering systems at a global scale. At Meta, he oversaw large-scale consumer engineering projects before launching Statsig in 2021, which quickly became a trusted experimentation platform for feature testing, flagging, and decision intelligence.

At OpenAI, Raji’s responsibilities will extend beyond product engineering to include core infrastructure and integrity systems, ensuring that applications such as ChatGPT and Codex remain robust, safe, and user-friendly even as usage grows.

Commenting on the appointment, Fidji Simo said:

Vijaye has a remarkable record of building new consumer and B2B products and systems at scale. He’s joining at a time when our models are opening entirely new ways to build, and his leadership will help turn that progress into safe applications that empower people with many new tools to improve their lives, help companies increase their impact and allow developers to build faster and better products.

OpenAI to Acquire Statsig

Alongside the leadership announcement, OpenAI confirmed that it will acquire Statsig, integrating the company’s powerful experimentation tools into its Applications division.

Statsig’s platform is widely used across the tech industry to enable agile product development through rapid experimentation, tight feedback loops, and data-driven decision-making. OpenAI itself has already used Statsig’s platform to streamline product rollouts and improve responsiveness.

Joining OpenAI as CTO of Applications is an extraordinary opportunity to bring my experience scaling consumer and enterprise products to a mission I deeply believe in: advancing AI in ways that are capable of solving hard problems, reliable, and truly beneficial to people everywhere. The journey with Statsig has been deeply gratifying, leading me to this moment and giving me conviction that we will continue helping teams ship better software every day.

What Happens Next for Statsig

Once the acquisition closes—pending customary regulatory approvals—Statsig employees will formally join OpenAI. However, the company will continue operating independently out of its Seattle headquarters, serving its customer base without disruption. OpenAI plans to take a measured approach to integration, ensuring existing customers continue to receive the same level of support and innovation.

Why This Matters

The move underscores OpenAI’s intent to strengthen its consumer and enterprise applications, ensuring that tools like ChatGPT evolve with user needs while maintaining safety and scalability. By combining Raji’s leadership with Statsig’s experimentation platform, OpenAI is setting the foundation to accelerate product innovation in a way that benefits individuals, developers, and businesses at a global scale.
