Orbitz Reports Data Breach Which Affected 880,000 Credit Cards

Recently, a travel booking website, Orbitz, has revealed that they have found a Data Breach exposing customers information.

Recently, a travel booking website, Orbitz, has revealed that they have found a Data Breach exposing customers information. The company came to know about this incident on March 1,2018.
 
The company stated -
 
“While conducting an investigation of a legacy Orbitz travel booking platform (the “platform”), Orbitz determined on March 1, 2018 that there was evidence suggesting that, between October 1, 2017, and December 22, 2017, an attacker may have accessed certain personal information, stored on this consumer and business partner platform, that was submitted for certain purchases made between January 1, 2016 and June 22, 2016 (for Orbitz platform customers) and between January 1, 2016 and December 22, 2017 (for certain partners’ customers). Orbitz immediately began investigating the incident and made every effort to remediate the issue, including taking swift action to eliminate and prevent unauthorized access to the platform.”
 
The company also revealed that the information which was accessed includes full name, payment card information, date of birth, phone number, email address, physical and billing address, and gender. However, they didn’t fid any evidence of unauthorized access to any other type of information which includes passport and travel information.
 
Orbitz took this incident seriously and started investigating immediately along with calling third-party forensic investigation firms and security experts. The company reported the breach to law enforcement so as to prevent unauthorized access. After making sure that the breach has been neutralized, the company started notifying potentially impacted customers and business partners.
 
The company has also provided toll-free numbers for worldwide customers which can be seen on the official website
 
The company has requested customers to monitor all of their account statements and credit history to guard against any unauthorized transactions or activity, and if there is some unusual activity on their accounts, they are advised to report it to their financial institution.
