How to Enable Automatic Scavenging of Stale Records

Introduction

In this article you will learn how to enable Automatic Scavenging of Stale Records.

Step 1

First of all open the Administrative Tools from the Start Menu.

Now in the Administrative Tools many options will be available and one of them will be "DNS", double-click on that to open it.

Now the DNS Manager Wizard will be opened, here on the left hand side DNS Server will be available.

Expand the Server name under the DNS, you can see that both Forward Lookup Zone as well as Backward Lookup Zone are available in this Server Name.

Step 3

Now right-click on your Server Name and click on it's Properties.

Now the Property Window will be opened. The Interfaces Tab will be selected by default. You need to click on the "Advanced" tab.

Step 4

Under the Advanced Tab you will see many options available for selection and some of them will be already selected, one of the options will be "Fail on Load is Bad Zone Data" if you select this option then your Zone will be failed automatically if it sees any type of Bad or Ambiguous data.

At the end of the page a checkbox will be available for Enabling Automatic Scavenging of the Records, check this checkbox to enable it. You can also provide the time period after which this Automatic Scavenging should be done, this can be either in Days or in Hours.
