At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Google unveiled an ambitious $15 billion, five-year investment plan to strengthen India’s AI infrastructure. The initiative includes the America-India Connect subsea cable project, expanded data centres and cloud capacity, AI skilling programs, and new DeepMind research partnerships. Google also committed $60 million toward AI innovation in government and science, along with climate-focused collaborations.

Meanwhile, Indian startup Sarvam introduced two large-scale foundational models — Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B — built specifically for India’s 22 official languages. Designed for enterprise reasoning, multilingual communication, coding, and research tasks, the models aim to reduce reliance on global AI platforms. Backed by the IndiaAI Mission, Sarvam positions itself as a serious domestic challenger to international AI leaders.

Anthropic also confirmed that its AI system Claude now generates nearly 100% of internal code, while emphasizing that engineers remain central to architecture, validation, and strategic decisions.

These developments highlight India’s accelerating role in global AI infrastructure, sovereign model development, and large-scale digital transformation.
