Do you know how to use the stack trace? When your program gets the error, look at the top of Visual Studio for Stack Frame . The drop-down will show where the error is at (that part is not likely to help) and each line below it goes up in the hierachy of methods and functions that were called. Hopefully one of them will be in your source code. If so then you will at least have an idea of where the problem is. Something very important to understand is the importance of catching errors. Such as using try and catch , and checking things before using them. Such as checking if a file exists. And checking if something is null. There are very many possible problems that can be caught before something serious happens such as what you currently have. I suggest going through your program and adding stuff like that. It might not solve the problem but I think it probably will. And it will save time in the future by notifying you of a problem in a manageable manner. And you will get in the habit of doing it and that will help in all your future programs.
