How to use local db for publish a site

I have query in my mind.

1. I have used Microsoft technology (ASP.NET & SQL Server) for web development.

2.If we want to used db2/400 with the help of SQL or instant of SQL. But problem is web application (application server) is on public domain but IBM i (db2/400) is in local (not accessible out site of organisation).

Can anyone suggest which approach to use, or how to deal with this kind of situation for web development?

The only way that you should create custom firewall and allow the spefic IP address to access the db.
