There is no similarity/difference between the 2 so it doesn't make sence to compare them. In c# lambda's are used as a shorthand way to support delegates. let's see the example public static class LambdaClass { public delegate bool Condition (T obj); public static bool NewWhere(this IEnumerable list, Condition c) { foreach( var item in list) { if(c) { yield return item; } } } } now you can use NewWhere extension method with lambda as List nums= new List (){ 1,2 , 3,4 , 54 }; nums.NewWhere(x=>x% 2 == 0 ); similarly, almost all Linq Extension methods for example where(), Find() etc are based on delegates. for example Where() method takes func delegate and Find() method takes predicate delegate as parameter, that is why we are able to use lambda expression on them as parameter. Now Linq is nothing but a set of libraries that provides a uniform way of writing queries to deal with any data source whether it is in-memory collections or SQL server or any other, your syntaxes will always be same. 2 syntaxes are used 1. This is Linq: var a = from b in someList where b.Value == something select b; But can be written with a Lambda: var a = someList.Where(b => b.Value == something); The Lambda is b => b.Value == something . Where as mock.Setup(m => m.SomeOp()).Returns(new Thing()); uses a Lambda (the m => m.SomeOp() ), but has nothing to do with Linq.
