Why there is a difference in resistor shape?

I found it different when I saw resistors in my Arduino UNO R3 board They where square in shape whereas the resistors we use in India is in cylindrical type. Why is this difference found?

Hi Munish

The resistor menufacturing based on how much amount current in this way. The cylindrical based on Beginers understanding based on color codes. In Many of MC and MP have small size of resistors.

Eg. In Fan Regulator. The Fan regulator have Variable Resistor.When the resistance increase the fan running speed will be getting slower
