Job Description

The Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of database systems across multiple platforms, including Oracle, MS SQL, DB2, and PostgreSQL. This role ensures data security, availability, and integrity, optimizes database performance, and supports application development teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, index maintenance, and database consistency checks.
  • Monitor performance, analyze query execution plans, and optimize database configurations for better performance and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
  • Test backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and minimize data loss.
  • Monitor systems for performance, availability, and security issues.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Plan and execute software upgrades, patches, and migrations.
  • Coordinate with teams to ensure compatibility and minimal disruption.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, schemas, and policies.
  • Document changes and updates for audit and compliance.
  • Configure and manage replication, clustering, and high availability solutions.
  • Implement disaster recovery plans and failover procedures.
  • Monitor database growth and resource utilization.
  • Recommend and implement upgrades to support business growth and scalability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience with Oracle, IBM DB2, and PostgreSQL database platforms.
  • Strong understanding of RDBMS concepts, SQL query language, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with database solutions, backup and recovery strategies, replication, and high availability.
  • Familiarity with database security best practices, encryption, access controls, and auditing mechanisms.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), IBM Certified Database Administrator, or PostgreSQL Certified Professional.
  • Knowledge of Informix is advantageous.
