Job Description

As a part of the Messaging Spam and Abuse team, you'll be dedicated to preventing abuse within the messaging ecosystem (xMS, RCS, RBM, Google Messages). Your responsibilities will involve ensuring user safety from phishing, malware, scams, and other unwanted interactions. Collaborating closely with product teams, you'll identify potential abuse vectors, establish and maintain abuse protections.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic vision for the product area, focusing on user trust and safety, and outline a mid to long-term roadmap for deploying abuse protections.
  • Analyze metrics, uncover underlying vulnerabilities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement anti-abuse measures, while advising on counter-abuse strategies.
  • Utilize cross-Google verification signals to identify and tag bad actors/entities, and collaborate with the carrier ecosystem to preemptively block bad actors.
  • Propose product design enhancements to deter bad actors and promote safety by design, collaborating with Engineering, Product Managers, and Program Manager groups.
  • Lead initiatives to prevent Google's infrastructure from being exploited for user harm or financial fraud, mitigating losses to users or Google.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in signal development, data analysis, cyber security, or anti-abuse.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in complex engineering systems and processes.
  • Proficiency in large-scale data analysis, tools and processes, and building customer reputation models.
  • Expertise in fraud/abuse investigations, fraud risk management, security and threat analysis related to internet, telephony, or communication products.
  • Domain knowledge in SMS/MMS/RCS and/or SIM/Phone Number fraud and abuse.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) with the ability to influence cross-functionally.
  • Programming proficiency in one or more languages (e.g., Python, Golang).
