Job Description

As an SQL Server Administrator (L2), you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our SQL Server environment. Your responsibilities will include resolving incidents escalated by L1 support within agreed SLAs, installing/upgrading/migrating SQL Servers, applying patches and service packs, configuring high availability/disaster recovery solutions, and troubleshooting various issues related to SQL Server performance and stability.

Responsibilities

  1. Incident Resolution. Resolve incidents escalated by L1 support within agreed SLAs and timelines. Escalate complex issues to L3 support as necessary.
  2. Installation/Upgradation/Migration. Install, upgrade, and migrate SQL Servers as required, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  3. Patch Management. Apply patches and service packs for SQL Server to ensure security and performance enhancements.
  4. High Availability/Disaster Recovery. Configure and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions to minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.
  5. Automated Alerts. Configure automated alerts to notify the team of any issues with SQL Server environments, ensuring proactive monitoring and response.
  6. Maintenance Plans. Set up and maintain maintenance plans for backups, database integrity checks, index rebuilds, and update statistics. Ensure all jobs run without any issues.
  7. Performance Tuning. Troubleshoot locking issues, including deadlocks, blocking, and lock timeouts. Implement solutions to optimize SQL Server performance.
  8. Bridge Calls. Join bridge calls to troubleshoot and resolve P1 (SEV1) and P2 (SEV2) incidents, collaborating with cross-functional teams to minimize impact and restore service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as an SQL Server Administrator in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in installing, upgrading, and migrating SQL Server instances.
  • Experience in applying patches, service packs, and configuring high availability/disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with maintenance plan setup for backups, integrity checks, and index maintenance.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for resolving locking issues, deadlocks, and blocking.
  • Ability to work under pressure and participate in bridge calls to resolve critical incidents promptly.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified. Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar are a plus.
