Anthropic Introduces Voice Support for Claude Chatbot

Claude Anthropic

Beta Feature Enables Spoken Conversations

Anthropic has begun the rollout of a new “voice mode” for its Claude chatbot, allowing users to hold complete spoken conversations via the Claude mobile app. The feature, currently in beta, is launching in English and will become available to users over the coming weeks.

Powered by Claude Sonnet 4

The voice mode is built on the Claude Sonnet 4 model. Some users on X (formerly Twitter) reported gaining access to the feature as early as Tuesday. Anthropic confirmed the rollout through its official account and updated support documentation.

Multimodal Voice Interactions

According to Anthropic, the voice mode lets users talk to Claude and hear responses through audio, offering a more natural, hands-free way to interact. Key points from the conversation appear on-screen in real time, and users receive both a transcript and a summary at the end of each exchange.

Features Include Voice Options and Flexibility

Voice mode is designed to make conversations smoother and more dynamic. Key features include.

  • Five distinct voice options to choose from
  • Real-time on-screen display of key points during the conversation
  • Seamless switching between voice and text modes
  • Support for image and document discussion
  • Post-conversation transcript and summary

Usage Limits and Premium Access

Voice conversations count toward the user’s regular usage limits, typically 20–30 conversations for those on the free tier. Additionally, only paid users have access to a Google Workspace connector, which enables voice-based interaction with Gmail and Calendar. Google Docs integration is restricted to Claude Enterprise subscribers.

Ongoing Development and Partnerships

In March, Anthropic CPO Mike Krieger told the Financial Times that the company was actively developing voice capabilities for Claude. He also mentioned ongoing discussions with Amazon, a key investor, and voice-focused startup ElevenLabs. It remains unclear whether either partnership contributed to the current implementation.
