Google has upgraded its Gemini app with two powerful new features that balance personalization with privacy control.
Personal Context: Personalized by Choice
Gemini now learns from your previous conversations, weaving in preferences, interests, and past chat topics to offer responses that feel more natural and tailored to you. Examples might include crafting suggestions for a YouTube video based on earlier interests or pop culture themes discussed previously.

This feature is enabled by default, but you remain in full control—toggle it off anytime via Settings > Personal Context > Your past chats with Gemini.
Initially launching on Gemini 2.5 Pro in select countries, Google plans to expand to 2.5 Flash and more regions in the coming weeks.
Temporary Chats: Your Private Mode in Gemini
Need a conversation that doesn’t stick? Launch a Temporary Chat—an incognito-style session that won’t be saved, won’t influence future responses, and isn’t used for personalization or model training.

Still, Gemini saves the session long enough (up to 72 hours) to process your input or any feedback you share.
This mode is available starting today and will roll out across user tiers in the weeks ahead.
More Control With “Keep Activity”
Google is also rebranding the “Gemini Apps Activity” setting to “Keep Activity”. With it enabled, some of the files and photos you upload may be used to help improve Google services.

Prefer not to share? Turn the setting off—or bypass it entirely by using Temporary Chats.
