New Delhi, India — October 8, 2025 — Google today announced major updates to AI Mode, its next-generation search experience powered by advanced Gemini models, introducing support for seven new Indian languages and debuting Search Live, a new multimodal conversational feature that brings voice and camera capabilities to Search.
India becomes the first country outside the United States to experience Search Live — highlighting Google’s commitment to building AI-driven, locally relevant technologies that make searching more natural, intuitive, and accessible for everyone.
AI Mode: Smarter Search in More Indian Languages
Following a strong response to AI Mode’s earlier rollout in English and Hindi, Google is now expanding support to seven additional Indian languages:
Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
This expansion allows millions more users across India to ask complex, conversational questions in their preferred language. Unlike traditional translation systems, AI Mode is powered by Google’s custom Gemini model for Search, designed to understand the deeper meaning and nuances of local languages — enabling more accurate, helpful, and natural responses.
AI Mode in these new languages will begin rolling out over the next week.
Introducing Search Live: Talk and Show to Search
With Search Live, users can now speak to Google and use their camera to get real-time, AI-powered help directly within Search. This new experience combines multimodal understanding — voice, text, and visual context — allowing for dynamic, conversational interactions.
Search Live is available in English and Hindi, and will begin rolling out to users in India starting today.
To access it, simply open the Google app and tap the new “Live” icon under the search bar, or open Google Lens and select “Live” at the bottom of the screen.
A More Conversational, Context-Aware Search Experience
India is already Google’s largest user base for both voice and visual search, making it the perfect place to introduce Search Live’s new multimodal capabilities. The feature enables users to get assistance in real-world situations using natural conversation and visual cues.
Building on India’s Search Momentum
Since AI Mode’s initial rollout, Google reports that users are asking nearly three times longer and more complex questions compared to traditional searches. Many are using AI Mode to support education, writing, product comparisons, and trip planning — areas where conversational search excels.
By expanding language support and introducing Search Live, Google aims to make AI-powered search more inclusive and useful to everyone in India, regardless of language or search preference.
