Google has announced that Gemini in Google Classroom is now expanding beyond English to all Classroom-supported languages where Gemini is available. This major update brings powerful generative AI tools to educators and higher education students worldwide, enabling them to plan lessons, create resources, and study more effectively in their preferred languages.

Empowering Educators Globally

Educators can now use the Gemini tab in Classroom to generate a wide range of instructional materials in multiple languages. Key features available at launch include:

  • Lesson Planning: Outlining detailed lesson plans based on specific learning objectives.

  • Assessment Creation: Generating quizzes and informational texts instantly.

  • Instructional Support: Identifying common student misconceptions and translating educational content.

  • Creative Brainstorming: Using starter prompts to gamify activities, generate differentiation strategies, and draft exemplar materials.

New Tools for Higher Education Students

For students in higher education (18+), Gemini in Classroom acts as a personalized study partner:

  • Guided Learning: Step-by-step explanations of complex topics.

  • Practice Quizzes: Preparing for exams with hints and real-time feedback.

  • Flashcards & Study Guides: Converting class materials into custom study aids and flashcards.

Availability and Admin Controls

The rollout began on April 13, 2026, for both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains. The feature is available for the following Google Workspace for Education editions:

  • Education Fundamentals

  • Education Standard

  • Education Plus

Admin Note: Access is ON by default for users designated as 18 years of age or older. Admins can manage these settings and the ability to generate content through the Google Workspace Admin console.
