Sep 16, 2025 – Google has announced a new experimental app for Windows, now available through Labs, aimed at making search faster and more seamless across desktop workflows.

The app lets users search without switching windows by pressing Alt + Space, instantly surfacing results from local files, installed apps, Google Drive, and the web.

Built-in Google Lens adds the ability to search anything on screen, from translating text in images to solving homework problems. For deeper exploration, users can enable AI Mode, which provides richer, conversational responses with follow-up context and helpful links.

Google says the experiment is designed to help users stay in their flow, whether working on a document, browsing, or gaming. Those interested can opt into the experiment via Labs and test the new experience firsthand.
