Google NotebookLM Preorders Go Live for Android and iOS Ahead of Launch

NotebookLM

Google has announced that its AI-powered note-taking tool, NotebookLM, will soon be available as a mobile app for Android and iOS. The app is now open for pre-registration on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in many countries around the world. The full launch is expected to happen during the upcoming Google I/O 2025 developer conference.

What Is NotebookLM?

NotebookLM was first introduced in 2023 as a project called "Project Tailwind". It was designed to help students, researchers, and writers take better notes using artificial intelligence. Over time, Google improved the tool and renamed it NotebookLM. It is now a powerful AI assistant that can help you,

  • Organize your notes
  • Summarize documents
  • Answer questions based on your saved content
  • Help with writing tasks using your own sources

You can upload PDFs, Google Docs, and copied text into the app. NotebookLM will then understand your content and help you work with it more effectively, like a smart research assistant.

Powered by Gemini 2.5 Flash

The new version of NotebookLM will use Gemini 2.5 Flash, one of Google’s latest AI models. This model is designed to handle complex reasoning tasks, which means it can understand and answer detailed questions, summarize large amounts of information, and even explain concepts more clearly.

Other AI features include.

  • Audio Overviews: NotebookLM can now read content aloud in over 50 languages.
  • Output Language Setting: You can choose the language you want the app to respond in, making it helpful for multilingual users.

Mobile Experience

This is the first time NotebookLM will be available as a dedicated mobile app. Previously, it was only available through the web. With the new app, users will be able to use AI-powered note-taking on the go, making it much more convenient for students, professionals, and anyone who needs quick research help.

Availability and Limitations

While pre-registration is open in many countries, users in India (and a few other regions) won’t see the pre-order option. This is due to regulatory rules that prevent Google from offering app pre-orders in India. However, once the app officially launches, users in India will be able to download it from the Play Store and App Store like any other app.

Until then, Indian users can continue using the NotebookLM web version, which still has all the latest features and updates.
