Google Translate Embeds AI-Powered Live Translation and Personalized Language Practice
Google translate

Google has expanded its Translate app with two groundbreaking AI-powered features aimed at breaking language barriers and enriching learning.

1. Live Conversation Mode

The Translate app now supports real-time, back-and-forth conversations via audio and on-screen text. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI models, this feature intelligently recognizes natural pauses, accents, and inflections to deliver seamless translations across more than 70 languages—including Arabic, French, Hindi, Korean, Spanish, and Tamil. Available from today, this feature is accessible on both Android and iOS in the U.S., India, and Mexico.

2. Personalized Practice Sessions

A new “Practice” option brings Duolingo-like language learning directly into the Translate app. Users can choose their skill level and learning goals—whether preparing for travel, business or casual conversations—and Google Translate will generate tailored interactive sessions. These exercises allow users to speak or listen and tap keywords, with progress tracked over time to build conversational confidence. Currently in beta, the feature is available to English speakers learning Spanish or French, and to Spanish, French, and Portuguese speakers learning English.

Behind both features is Google’s Gemini AI, which enables advanced reasoning, multimodal support, and expressive text-to-speech—significantly boosting Translate’s capabilities beyond simple conversion to a dynamic communication and learning tool.
