Microsoft Launches Two New Copilot Experiences – Here's What’s New

Copilot Experences

Microsoft Power BI users have two new reasons to celebrate this week as the platform rolls out significant Copilot upgrades. The much-anticipated “Chat with your Data” feature is now live, and Copilot support has expanded to securely embedded reports for portals and websites, empowering users to interact with data more naturally and securely than ever before.

Chat with Your Data: Now Live for All Power BI Users

Announced at Build 2025 and now fully deployed, the new “Chat with your Data” experience brings a dedicated, full-screen Copilot interface to Power BI. This innovative feature enables users to effortlessly explore data, ask business-critical questions, and receive instant, accurate answers—whether in the form of summaries, visuals, or direct insights.

Chat with data

How does it work?

Simply type your question, and Copilot intelligently searches across all the data you’re authorized to access. It then crafts a tailored response, which could be a summary, a chart, or another visual representation, making data analysis more intuitive and accessible for everyone.

Example: Want to know last quarter’s sales trends? Just ask, and Copilot will generate a visual breakdown in seconds.

Getting Started

The feature is currently off by default. To activate it, admins need to enable the “Users can access a standalone, cross-item Power BI Copilot experience” tenant setting. For detailed setup instructions and prerequisites, refer to the official Copilot requirements documentation.

Copilot Comes to Embedded Power BI Reports for Portals and Websites

In another major update, Copilot is now available within securely embedded Power BI reports, opening up new possibilities for organizations that host analytics on their own portals or websites. Users can now interact with the Copilot Report Pane directly inside embedded reports, enjoying the same AI-powered insights as they would in the main Power BI service.
