OpenAI has announced a new feature for ChatGPT called Pulse, now rolling out in preview for Pro users on mobile. Unlike the traditional question-and-answer format where users initiate every interaction, Pulse aims to deliver proactive, personalized research updates—helping users stay on top of their goals without always needing to ask first.

How It Works

Pulse synthesizes information from a user’s chat history, memory, and feedback to curate a daily feed of updates. Each morning, users receive visual topical cards they can scan quickly or expand for more detail. Updates might include:

  • Follow-ups on ongoing conversations

  • Meal ideas for the evening

  • Fitness or training progress suggestions

  • Professional or travel-related insights

The feature can also integrate with Google Calendar and Gmail (opt-in only) to provide even more contextually relevant suggestions—like drafting meeting agendas, surfacing restaurant options for an upcoming trip, or reminding users of birthdays.

Curated by You

Users have direct control over what shows up in Pulse. They can:

  • Curate topics by asking for daily or weekly updates on specific interests

  • Provide thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback to refine suggestions

  • Manage or delete their feedback history anytime

For example, someone might ask for a Friday roundup of local events, daily tennis updates, or tips on learning a new skill. Over time, this feedback loop helps Pulse become more personal and useful.

App screen asking: ‘Mind if I ask — when you’re traveling, what’s your preference? This helps shape what shows up tomorrow.’ Three options are shown: ‘Family-friendly hotels,’ ‘One-of-a-kind experiences’ (selected), and ‘Affordable options,’ followed by a text field labeled ‘Share anything…’

Built for Focus, Not Endless Scrolling

OpenAI emphasizes that Pulse is meant to provide short, actionable updates—not an endless feed. Each set of updates lasts for that day only, unless the user saves it or asks a follow-up. This design choice keeps the focus on progress and productivity rather than distraction.

Availability

ChatGPT Pulse is currently in preview for Pro users on mobile. OpenAI plans to expand it to Plus users next, with the goal of making it available to all users after incorporating feedback from early adopters.
