In a significant step toward closing the gap with AI powerhouses like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has introduced a memory feature for its Grok chatbot. The update, announced on Wednesday night, enables Grok to remember past conversations and tailor future responses based on user preferences, enhancing its ability to deliver personalized recommendations and advice.
Personalized Responses Arrive
The memory feature, now available in beta on Grok.com and the Grok apps for iOS and Android, marks a major milestone for the chatbot. When active, it allows Grok to "learn" from previous interactions, meaning the more you use it, the more personalized and relevant its responses become.

"Memories are transparent," stated a post from the official Grok account on X (formerly Twitter). "You can see exactly what Grok knows and choose what to forget."
Users can manage their memories through the Data Controls page in settings. Individual memories can be deleted directly from the Grok chat interface, which is currently on the web version and will soon be on Android.

Unavailable in the EU and the UK
While the feature is rolling out globally, users in the EU and UK won’t have access, likely due to regional data privacy laws. xAI says it’s working on bringing the feature to the Grok experience on X soon.
This update puts Grok on a more level playing field with its rivals, as ChatGPT and Gemini already support persistent memory functions to improve personalization. As AI tools continue to evolve, features like this are rapidly becoming essential, and Grok is catching up fast.
